Meet Hye Young Chyun

Hye Young Chyun is an experimental theater artist based in South Korea and NYC. Her work reaches across disciplines, including playwriting, performing, puppet and mask design, properties and scenic design, technical crew work, creative production, and administration. She is also a Korean-English translator for artists, projects, and institutions.

As a performer, Hye Young received her masters from Sarah Lawrence, and then became an active member of the resident acting company (The Bats) at The Flea Theater in NYC.

She works closely across disciplines with Sibyl Kempson’s 7 Daughters of Eve Theatre and Performance Company, and has worked in the US at venues including The Whitney Museum of American Art, LaMaMa etc., The Brick Theater, The Flea Theater, The Shed, Pace Gallery, the Westbeth Artist Building, Here Arts Center, Korean Association of New York Artists, Korean Cultural Center, Dixon Place, Concrete Temple Theater NY, Culture Hub, and The Kitchen, among others.

In South Korea, Hye Young has worked with Yvua Arts Theatre Company, Korean International Theatre Institute, Playfactory Mabangzen Seoul, Performing Arts Market, Yeon Hee Art Theatre, Party Gallery Rorang, Daehakro Arts Theater, and Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, among others.
